Durga is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, and she took this form to destroy the demon Mahishasura. She is the protective mother of the universe, and also known as Devi and Shakti. Goddess Durga symbolizes the divine forces (positive energy), and protects mankind from evil forces(negative energy). Goddess Durga is worshipped during Navaratiri, a festival celebrated for nine days worshipping the Goddess in nine different forms collectively known as Nava Durga. The nine names of Goddess Durga are, Skanda Maata (Mother of Skanda), Kushmanda (creator of Universe), Shailaputri (Daughter of Himalayas), Kaalratri (Destroyer of Kaali), Brahmacharini (following celibacy), Maha Gauri (wife of Lord Shiva), Katyayani (daughter of Sage Katyayana), Chandraghanta(wearing a moon necklace), and Siddhidatri (blessing Siddhis and mystic powers).
The Goddess is portrayed seated on a Lion or Tiger in Abhaya mudra which clearly explains her power and determination to win the evil forces. She is eight armed carrying different weapons. Her divine shakti contains the combined energies of all the gods in the form of weapons. Her eight arms has the chakra, conch, bow and arrow, sword, mace (gada), trident, and her front right hand shows Abhaya, while the left hand holds a half bloomed lotus. The statue has all the iconographical attributes of Goddess Durga
This collection of statues is breathtaking in the details achieved. All the pieces are made from a composite of Real Bronze Metal and Cold Cast Resin, and as can be seen the results are quite stunning. The bronze powder mixed in cold cast resin ensures a richer, more life-like presentation giving the illusion of soft material and highlighting the soft detail of any fabrics worn by the subject. This can be seen in detail in spite of being cast in a hard material.
